The US Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Maintenance Foreman (Power Generation) in the Facility maintenance section.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Provides guidance and works with a multi trade workforce of extremely skilled and semi skilled employees engaged in residential generator repairs, automatic transfer installations and repairs and automatic voltage regulator installation and repairs. Plans and schedules Preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance. Supervises and plans generator installation, power generation work, fuel tank installations, automatic transfer switch installation and repairs, with the Embassy and Mission residences.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides work guidance and works with a multi trade workforce of extremely skilled and semi skilled employees engaged in residential generator repairs, automatic transfer installations and repairs and automatic voltage regulator installation and repairs. Plans and schedules Preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance and all. Supervises and plans generator installation , power generation work, fuel tank installations, automatic transfer switch installation and repairs, with the Embassy and Mission residences. Provides guidance and works with a multi trade workforce of skilled and semi skilled employees engaged in mainly power generation or power regulation related residential maintenance and minor construction projects. Responsible and accountable for total Quality Control on all work performed by workers assigned to this position. Responsible for the residential generator electricians, residential generator mechanical, occasionally residential masons and residential electricians for assistance. Responsibilities include identification to include at times by lower level employees of required spare parts, replacement parts, new equipment installation and Scheduled Preventive and Corrective Maintenance on all 104 residences, plus main compound generators. Must be able to professionally and expertly supervise and troubleshoot automatic transfer switches installations repairs, electrical control panel repairs and or installations, automatic voltage regulation installation and repairs and generator installations and repairs.

Delegate’s accountability down to lower level employees by making sure that repairs are undertaken correctly, effectively and in a very timely manner. Some of this will require daily field inspections of each worker’s performance. Estimates materials months and weeks in advance of make ready season and submits Purchase requests to help augment materials on hand to facilitate speedy and seamless work flow. Ensures work orders are retuned back to Work Order Clerks in a very timely manner. Ensures all work orders have the correct materials listed and hours are accurately reported and section related work orders are retuned within 3 days of completion dates. Incumbent performs skilled hands on training tasks and explains any blueprints available for the job. Assists and helps develop realistic OBO Approved Preventive Maintenance plans, and schedules.

Provides on-the-job training in trade skills and shop practice and is responsible for all first level functions including efficient use of equipment and material. Oversight make ready projects and provide defined results as well as contractors.

Maintains absolute current records and prepares reports on various aspects of maintenance and repair operations. Reviews work orders and estimates manpower requirements and ascertains materials are available in advance of committing work force to the job tasks.

Maintains Maintenance records and accountability for all labor, supplies and tools used on site.

Inspects and abides by all SHEM policies for safety. Conducts all Safety Training and meetings per SHEM polices. Inspects the work for quality control and corrects all issues for both Embassy workers and contractors. Directs maintenance tradesman in everyday work details and assignments. Fills in as Maintenance Duty Officer after hours and on weekends. Is on 24 hour call out 365 a year unless otherwise pre planned leave time.

Other duties as directed by FSN Assistant Facility Manager and/or American FM.

– Ensures that all supervised job activities and duties are performed in a responsible manner to avoid the creation of safety or health hazards; ensures that all subordinate personnel conform to established safety and health policy and procedures and properly utilize personal protective equipment. Should accidents, illnesses or injuries occur, ensures that the POSHO, safety designated or other appropriate official is informed and that required immediate medical attention is delivered.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

Education: Completion of secondary school (Form VI) is required. Vocational training from apprenticeship program or technical school is required.
Prior experience: Three years of experience as journeyman Generator mechanic or Generator Electrician. Generator maintenance, inspection and repair experience is required.
Language proficiency: Level IV (fluent) English and Kiswahili (reading, writing and speaking) is required.
Knowledge: Must be fully qualified in one building trade as journeyman, must have working knowledge in all other Embassy related trades; must have excellent working knowledge of written English. Has to be able to read and decipher blue prints, schematics, diagrams, wiring diagrams and repair manuals.
Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of an exposure to carpentry, electrical, plumbing and refrigeration trades. Must have a class B & D driver’s license and be able to drive a vehicle both standard and automatic. Must have basic computer skills.
